OUR HISTORY
Since 1832, seven generations of the Carreau family have managed the winery and worked passionately to produce year after year delectable wines. Antoine, François, Ernest, Paul, Georges, Jean-Marie and Sébastien have all contributed to the renown of the "domaine".
The Carreau & sons winery is located 1.5 miles away from Blaye, in Cars a small village on hillsides overlooking the Gironde 's estuary, in the heart of the Premières Côtes de Blaye appellation.
Today Jean-Marie Carreau and his son Sébastien cultivate 148 acres in two "domaines" the CHATEAU L'ESCADRE and the CHATEAU LES PETITS ARNAUDS.
The vineyard, planted on the sunny hills of the property, enjoys a homogenous "encépagement" (grapes variety) of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec.
The grapes are collected by hand or machinery depending on the age of the vines . The vinification is done according to the purest traditions and the latest enological methods.
The different types of wines are then brought up in oak barrels of various ages.
Benefiting of an excellent reputation the CHATEAU L'ESCADRE and CHATEAU LES PETITS ARNAUDS are ranked among the best in the appellation "Premières Côtes de Blaye" . |
